PRODUCTION LOG - Creating the Moodboard

The moodboard is an aspect of the project that serves a vital role as it gives me a good idea of what I want to see in the short film and how I want others to see the film. I went on google images and made searches for various aspects I wanted to use in my short film such as;
Television Head,
Television,
Technology,
Nature,
Nurture,
Technology Vs Nature.
These searches came up with a plethora of images that gave me a clear understanding of what I wish for the video to look like.
I made two moodboards because I feel that it gives me a wider scope to look back upon and to gain information and understanding from.

PRODUCTION LOG - Planning and coming up with the initial idea

I originally wanted to make a music video using Daft Punk's song Human After All with a focus on the obvious lack of humanity that is very apparent in modern society today. This was the idea that I initially developed but as time progressed and I reflected upon my resource ordit I realised it suits me personally more to create a short film. I wanted to create something very personal with a message to the viewer so I think a music video will detract from that value.
I came up with the TV head idea and decided to build on it and think what resources I had at my disposal that would help me in creating a good short film. I found an old TV in my loft and the idea stemmed from that.

Mood Board

This is my mood board for my short film; here I will run through the meaning of all of the different images that I will use in my short film.

The top left image is a visual representation of one of my scenes, it will feature the protagonist attempting to remove the mask from his head, and this will of course be a futile attempt at saving himself as the media has already consumed his life and body. The image I have selected does not fit exactly to my idea as my protagonist will be smartly dressed to add juxtaposition to the natural element of the film.

The top centre image is what I will be attempting to replicate, obviously not the meditation part of it but the suit/ smartly dressed man is used in order to contrast with the background of the natural field, and this will reinforce the whole technology/media industry vs. nature theme I will be employing.

Those are the two main images I will be using, the field on the bottom left is similar to the field I am aiming to use therefore I have added it.

This is my second and final moodboard, now with an adapted idea that suits postmodernism I felt it would be good to redo my moodboard. Begining from the top left I will talk through each picture and why I chose it. Most of the pictures will be grouped into twos or threes as the images relate solidly to each other.

No Signal 1 - The first picture is an idea I have that would involve overlaying the colour bars over the video at randomised intervals in order to create more atmosphere than before with just a plain film.

The Ladybug/Computer Mouse - This is a very poweful image that revolves around the idea of Nature Vs Technology and this is what I wish to recreate in my own video as I think it is a powerful message.

Initial Planning Ideas/Proposal

Initial Idea.

My initial idea features the use of a television helmet that I am planning to create. The TV head will deliver a message about the media industry. My idea begins with the main character watching TV. The camera zooms in on his face more and more as the light flickers on his face then the scene suddenly cuts to black. The title "Flicker." fades into the bottom right corner then it flickers and disappears.

The protagonist then has the Television in place of his head as he goes about his day; he travels downstairs and begins making breakfast, as he does so he experiences “glitches” where he appears as normal momentarily. He decides to get some fresh air and heads outside, the glitches become more and more frequent, eventually he falls to one knee, the nature and the harsh light of the sun begin to surround him and pressure him down.

He attempts to rip the TV head from his body to no avail. The glirtches appear more and more violent until he eventually pulls the TV off and throws it. The final shot is one of the TV on the ground; it slowly pans up to see the protagonist dead on the grass of the field.

PRODUCTION LOG - Writing the Resource Ordit

The resource ordit is a vital piece of information when it comes to the initial planning of a music video or a short film or any project for that matter as it gives the director, the producer and anyone else working on the project and idea of what sort of resources are at their disposal.
This as you can imagine is crucial as it lets you know what size of project you can create with the items at your disposal. Having a resource ordit to look back on is very helpful as it means that I can reflect upon my initial idea and build on it with an idea of what I can use.
